Toledo Solar's Statement on Forced Labor

America must achieve energy security and reach its carbon reduction goals without compromising on its values. Unfortunately, the tremendous promise of solar energy has been undermined in recent years by forced labor and coal-burning power plants in the overseas supply chain. This was never acceptable and we must stop turning a blind eye to these facts. We are pleased that this scourge is finally being confronted at the highest levels of finance and government. Forced labor practices have no place in our industry, or our Country’s vital renewable energy supply chain.

At Toledo Solar, we are proud to introduce American-made Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) solar panels to the residential, commercial, building-integrated and automotive-integrated markets. From day one, we have pledged to deliver the highest quality solar solutions while also maintaining the highest ethical standards.

  • We have always sourced our components from suppliers with strict ESG controls.
  • All the materials we use to produce our panels are sourced from North America and Europe.
  • Our team is entirely based at our 100 MW factory outside of Toledo, Ohio.

We applaud the U.S. Department of Energy for its visionary commitment to aggressively advance the domestic production of CdTe solar panels as a long-term solution to our country’s energy security, creating high-paying jobs right here at home. CdTe solar panels are not only superior to Chinese produced polysilicon panels in terms of lifetime ROI and durability, but they are already powering 40% of the American utility market without any of the environmental and social downsides that plague the silicon-based supply.

America stands at a critical juncture in the push for renewable energy as a matter of national security. Toledo Solar is committed to helping our nation achieve this goal — and to do so responsibly.

Unfortunately, there is a dirty secret in U.S. solar:  Chinese Silicon PV, which makes up ~90% of the U.S. non-utility PV Solar supply chain utilizes slave labor. Toledo Solar’s mission is to provide safe, ethical U.S.-made solar technology to help achieve global carbon neutrality in the next two decades.

"We’ve said it before and will say it again: we are disgusted by these practices, and forced labor has no place in the solar industry. These claims are a direct contrast to our values and how we strive to operate as an industry. We expect our companies to hold themselves to the highest standards possible when it comes to the environment and health and safety of their workers, and many embrace strict operating standards."
