PERRYSBURG, Ohio — Wednesday, Congressman Tim Ryan stopped in Perrysburg to tour Toledo Solar and discuss a recent energy proposal.
In June, Ryan introduced the Ensuring America Gets Legitimate Energy Sourced, Originating, and Leased at Home Reliably Act, or EAGLE SOLAR Act, which would apply Buy American rules to solar purchase power agreements, keeping solar panel development jobs in the U.S.
Buy American is in effect when procuring panels, but not purchase power agreements which is the main financial source of U.S. solar power.
Those unrestricted purchase power agreements allow a lot of foreign solar technology to imported.
“We’ve seen through the pandemic how reliant we are on China for so many products and it’s just outrageous that we’re going to continue to go down that road,” Ryan said. “We need to take a stand and it will benefit solar companies here in northwest Ohio.
Ryan believes more native development will not only enrich assembly standards, but also the domestic supply chain.
